Frozen Dairy – A Summertime Favorite

Dairy Products

Ice cream and frozen dairy-based desserts are exceptionally popular in the warmer months. A favorite dessert at picnics, parties, and restaurants, frozen dairy desserts stand alone or accompany most prepared desserts.

The average American consumes more than 23 pounds of ice cream per year. In fact, according to the IFDA (International Dairy Foods Association), America’s favorite ice cream flavors are Vanilla, Chocolate, Cookies N’ Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Buttered Pecan, Cookie Dough, Strawberry, Moose Tracks, and Neapolitan.

June and July are the busiest months for ice cream production in the US. The IFDA shares its most recent data on ice cream and frozen dessert production in the U.S. In 2015, it was approximately 1.54 billion gallons of ice cream and frozen desserts produced. Hard frozen dairy desserts accounted for almost 75 percent of frozen dairy products.

The most amazing statistic is that the coldest states consume the most ice cream. Ice cream makers and retailers say the Great Lakes region (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin) is the most successful ice cream market.
